Molly DePrekel

Molly DePrekel MA, LP is a psychologist in private practice at the Midwest Center for Trauma and Emotional Healing and Hold Your Horses.

Molly’s current work includes individual therapy, group therapy, wellness workshops and consulting.  Her workshop and consulting work are varied and include animal assisted interventions.  She is faculty at the University of Denver school of Social Work Institute for Human Animal Connections teaching in the Animals and Human Health Certificate program and provides consultation for the Institute for Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. 

Molly is an EPONA Equestrian Services approved instructor, holds a certificate in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for the treatment of trauma and developmental wounds, and a certificate  in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).  An active volunteer and consultant in the field of animal-assisted therapy, Molly served as past President of the Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association (EFMHA),  Co-Chair and Co-Founder of the Certified Board of Equine Interaction Professionals (CBEIP) and remains actively engaged in best practices and credentialing of animal assisted therapy in mental health services.

She taught her Developing Profound Conversations at the University of Minnesota, co-founded  Minnesota Linking Individuals Nature and Critters (MNLINC), utilizes animal assisted therapy and has practiced in hospitals, educational settings, mental health facilities, correctional sites and outreach centers nationwide for twenty-nine years. She is recognized for her work with adolescents, young women, families and internationally-facilitated workshops and trainings.

Molly received her MA degree in counseling and psychological services from St. Mary’s College (Minneapolis) and a BS degree in Animal Husbandry from Michigan State University (East Lansing)   She has co-authored five manuals on animal assisted therapy and education and is a contributing author to “Harnessing the Power of Equine Assisted Counseling: Adding Animal Assisted Therapy to Your Practice”. An avid continuous learner and volunteer, Molly volunteers for numerous national organizations supporting animal assisted therapy and human/animal bonds. She was a Prouty Project STRETCH World Team Sports Adventure Challenge participant and Galapagos Environmental Service Project participant. Molly lives in Minneapolis with her therapy dogs, Willow and Finnegan, and Morgan horse, Whisper, who assists with equine-assisted psychotherapy and wellness.
